CENTURY/TTURC Research Projects

The second round of funding for the Center for Nicotine and Tobacco Use Research at Yale (CENTURY) included four main projects which are part of and funded by the Transdisciplinary Tobacco Use Research Center (TTURC).

CENTURY also has several policy projects funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. See our December 2006 Research & Policy Brief.

Also, there is a related project that is now recruiting for participants.

The four in-depth tobacco research projects in TTURC 2 are:

		Project 1: Animal Models to Understand Risk Factors for Treatment Resistance, Dr. Marina Picciotto, P.I.
		Project 2: Imaging Nicotinic and GABAergic Markers in Tobacco Smokers , Dr. Julie Staley, P.I., Dr. Graeme Mason, co-P.I.
		Project 3: Modeling Smoking Lapse Behavior for Drug Development , Dr. Sherry McKee, P.I.
		Project 4: Targeted Interventions for Weight Concerned Smokers , Dr. Stephanie O'Malley, P.I.

The five main projects for TTURC 1 are:

		Naltrexone Augmentation of Nicotine Patch Therapy, led by Dr. Stephanie O'Malley, Ph.D.
		Early Tobacco Abstinence in High Risk Smokers, led by Dr. Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin, Ph.D.
		Framing Messages for Smoking Cessation with Bupropion, led by Dr. Peter Salovey, Ph.D.
		Animal Models of Risk Factors for Treatment Failure, led by Dr. Marina Picciotto, Ph.D.—This basic science project will study the effects of nicotine administration
		Imaging of Serotonergic and Cholinergic Markers in Smokers, led by Dr. Julie K. Staley, Ph.D.
