What is this study about?

We are testing a method to reduce heavy drinking in young adults, which includes the following:
1) An FDA-approved medication called naltrexone
2) Brief counseling, including individualized feedback and tips to reduce drinking

You will not be required to stop drinking in this study

How does this study work?

First, contact us to get answers to any questions you have and so we can ask you some screening questions.

Most of the study takes place over a two-month period with follow-up appointments afterward.
If you qualify and enroll in the study, we would ask you to do the following:

1) Take a physical exam, which includes lab work
2) Attend appointments at our site
3) Complete brief daily surveys and surveys during the study appointments
4) Take the study medication, which could be either active naltrexone or placebo

Naltrexone is an FDA-approved medication that has been found to be safe and effective in reducing drinking

Again, you will not be required to stop drinking in this study

To participate in the study, you must . . .

* Be between 18-25 years old
* Drink at least two days per week, on average
* Meet other inclusion criteria for the study

What will I get for participating?

1) A free physical exam and lab work
2) A thorough assessment, feedback about your alcohol use and tips to cut down
3) Free study medication. There is a 50% chance that this will be active medication.

What about compensation?

You will be compensated for each appointment you attend.
There is also additional payment for compliance with different aspects of the study.
Your total possible compensation would be $470
You may also be eligible for travel compensation should you have to come a long distance or take public transportation.
