Name at least 5 possible reversible explanations for the patients mental status change from his initial physical and baseline lab data. What broad categories of illnesses can account for a mental status change that we need to consider in every patient? What additional tests would you order at this time? On the day of admission, the patient's family asks you not to institute any "heroic" measures if the patient stops breathing or if his heart stops beating.
