Name: Interview
When Donna called to schedule her appointment, Dr. Grey's nurse, Mona, asked her if she would be agreeable to being examined by Suma Patel, a 4th year medical student. Dr. Grey would see her after.
Donna: No problem, I met Suma at the Salty Dog. She seemed very nice.
Suma: Can you tell me what brings you to see us today?
Donna: I've been quite worried for about a month now. I've been getting odd pains up in my shoulders and my neck, and sometimes in my chest.
Suma: Yes?
Donna: They come most any time, and take my breath away. I get scarred, like something bad is going to happen.
Suma: Go on.
Donna: Yesterday I had one just before I saw you in the restaurant. I tried sipping some selzer water. I tend to get a lot of heartburn, especially when I work the late shift. It wakes me up at night sometimes. But this feels different. It doesn't really burn. It's more like a toothache.
Suma: Does it make you sweat?
Donna: Sometimes. A few nights ago I had it watching TV on my couch. I noticed the pillow was wet when I got up.
Suma: Do you get the pain when you exercise?
Donna: I don't exercise. Wish I did! But it doesn't bother me when I carry heavy trays around the restaurant. I work pretty hard on the dinner shift.
Suma: Have you ever been a patient in a hospital?
Donna: When I gave birth to my son. And a complete hysterectomy 8 years ago. Went through menopause right after.
Suma: Do you take any medications?
Donna: Just Tums. I usually take a couple with breakfast and at bedtime. It gives me some calcium and helps to keep the heartburn away.
Suma: I know Dr. Grey is going to want to see you in just a few minutes. I'd like to examine you first.
