Henry Chatfield: Interview
Dr. Grey: I understand that you are here for a check-up Henry. Have you had any symptoms or concerns about your health?
Henry: I'm fit as a fiddle doc. Why I haven't had to see you for quite a few years. When was the last time I was here?
Dr. Grey: (Thumbing through the record) Looks like your last visit was 8 years ago, when you fell off a ladder cleaning your gutters and broke your left collar bone.
Henry: I've been fine ever since.
Dr. Grey: That's good news. Let's go on into the exam room. I'll ask you some more questions as we go.

The correct answer is f. Periodic routine blood pressure measurement has been proven in well designed randomized controlled trials to reduce morbidity and mortality in asymptomatic adults through early detection and treatment of hypertension. Routine chest x-ray has been shown to be of no benefit. For all the rest, there is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against. It should be emphasized that these guidelines apply only to the use of these tests for the purpose of screening adults without symptoms or signs of disease. In actuality, physicians are expected to make recommendations in the absence of firm scientific evidence. It is common practice to obtain a baseline EKG and fasting lipid profile in adults who have not already had these tests.
