Research

Serguei Bannykh is an Assistant Professor and Attending Neuropathologist in the Department of Pathology. He specialized in surgical pathology of tumors of central and peripheral nervous system, developmental and neurodegenerative diseases. In particular, he studies a pathogenesis of gliomas and pediatric tumors with neuronal differentiation. Recent work focuses on validation of Sox10 oligodendroglial-specific transcriptional factor as a differential diagnostic marker of oligodendrogliomas. In addition, his research interests include intracellular trafficking of myelin proteins.

Dr. Bannykh completed his training in Anatomic pathology and Neuropathology at the University of California at San Diego. Prior to it his training included a Ph.D. in vascular biology and a postdoctoral training in Cell Biology.

Dr. Bannykh is involved in fundamental and translational research at Yale University School of Medicine.
