Research Interests

The areas of research in my laboratory are 1) genetic basis of vector competence of African malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae and 2) the role innate immunity plays in parasite vector interactions. We have identified several quantitative genetic loci required for the melanotic encapsulation of different malaria parasites. We have recently showed that different genetic loci are involved in the encapsulation of different malaria species. We are also characterizing the components and functions of two signaling (IMD and Toll) pathways of innate immunity in this mosquito species.
